Environment and sustainability

Zermatt Bergbahnen AG is certified to ISO 14001 and has always set an excellent example where sustainability is concerned: in 2002 a working group made up from environmental and planning agencies produced an overall concept entitled “Zermatt: A Sustainable Ski Resort”. A number of practical measures were introduced as a result, namely the systematic monitoring of construction work for environmental impact, the ongoing repair of environmental damage caused in the past, advice on all environmental issues, and the production of environmental reports. Since then, Zermatt Bergbahnen AG has invested up to CHF 1 million per year in projects for the environment and been in the vanguard of Swiss cable car companies with its unique environmental management system.
