All packed for their eagerly anticipated holiday, guests from all over the world travel to the Mattertal to visit Zermatt and the Matterhorn. Zermatt is car-free, so if you come by road you have to leave your car at one of the parking facilities in Täsch. From there, Zermatt is 12 minutes away by train. Or you can arrive in comfort by taxi.
From the Zurich and Geneva international airports, you can get to Zermatt in just a few hours by rail. After changing in Visp, you cover the last few miles on the world-famous GlacierExpress train – just lean back and enjoy the panorama of the Swiss Alps.

Arrival by train
The Swiss public transport network is very well developed. If you are travelling to Switzerland by air, there are convenient rail connections to continue your journey. Once your train gets to Visp, you change onto the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway and travel to Zermatt along the Matter Valley.
Arrival by car
Access for private vehicles is permitted as far as Täsch, Zermatt's neighbouring village. There are parking facilities at the Matterhorn Terminal.
From Täsch, take the Shuttle Service, with departures to Zermatt every 20 minutes.
Tip: Buy your ski pass, including the Shuttle Service, the convenient way: online (available winter season only).

- Approaching from the east:
via the Furka Pass or Furka car train
- Approaching from the south:
via the Simplon Pass or Simplon car train
- Approaching from the south:
via Lausanne, along the Rhone Valley to Visp; from there, follow directions to Zermatt
Arrival by helicopter
Air Zermatt has been a byword for mountain rescue for more than 45 years. Zermatt's pioneering helicopter rescue service has already saved hundreds of mountaineers and snow sports enthusiasts from precarious situations. But Air Zermatt doesn't only fly rescue missions: in addition to breathtaking scenic flights, it also offers a taxi service linking Swiss and international airports to the Zermatt-Matterhorn resort.

Town traffic
Zermatt is car-free. Only electric vehicles are allowed for commercial use, together with horse-drawn carriages. Most distances can be easily covered on foot, but electric taxis ensure a comfortable transfer to the hotels. Public transport is provided in the form of electric buses. With any ticket of Zermatt Bergbahnen AG, you travel free of charge on all lines of the electric buses in Zermatt, in winter as well as in summer.
